crap CCAL camp

Well...as i have guessed it, this CCAL camp is sortta crap. My negative perception b4 the camp is worsened after it, and yeah, that's about how bad it can go.

Seems that you all have been enjoying the electives, at least for the coming to school late part of it. I dont get to enjoy that. Neither do i get to go through a whole new experience like all of you did, such as archery, paintball etc. From what i know in CHS, electives could be extremely fun. More exciting and exhilerating than what you all have brought out to be, but it seems that your descriptions of the activities matches wif my elective expectations. Surpised that you people didnt enjoy paintball though. Well, from what i've rmbred, except for the waiting part the rest of it is quite okay. The pain of being hit by a bullet...well...the last time i went i got a rude shock when i was first struck, but that didnt stop me from enjoying the satisfaction of hitting my opponent. Thought you ppl are kindda immune to pain after the ice-skating outing...but apparantly not.

EEP is supposed to be enriching, not monotonous and dull. Not going through a slacker version of what you have already gone through b4. Camps that involved pitching tents and team building activities, i could say i have enough of it. Well...maybe i could have done better with a more positive attitude, but whenever i think of what you ppl are doing...haiz. Let me describe a few of these more "interesting" things in the camp.

There was this absailing thing, where you are supposed to walk down vertically on a wall from midair, and leap off halfway. It was supposed to be a "high risk activity", and i was made the IC of this event. Nothing fulfilling, except for the fact that i get to go to the top of the tower and watch people fall off one by one, with different sets of emotions, some confident, but most nervous. I learnt that words of encouragement or even a thumb-up could go a long way, forgive me, but sometimes it satisfies me even more to watch people freaked out on midair. Leap of Faith is another high risk event, where you're supposed to climb and leap off from a 9 metre pole to grab a bar dangling in midair. Looks more frightening than it actually is, well, at least for me. Not for my section though, with some hestitating on the pole for a very very long time before mustering enough courage to make the leap. Got sick of waiting after a while. Feeling brave, i challenged my frenz to timing. Almost tripped over the step while climbing, but still completed the event within a minute.

On the first night there was heavy rain and my tent leaked water, became a fish tank overnight. I was too tired then and continued to sleep anyway, but soon found out that it was impossible. So there went my sleep. Perhaps i was better off then yvette, whose tent collapsed in the middle of the night. But at least she got to watch the cup finals, whereas i was deceived by the instructor into thinking there was no cable there. Screw him, that piece of f***ing shit.

Campfire could be wild, unless you're suffering from nausea and headache, like i was at that time. It is stupider for the fact that they didnt even have enough panadols for consumption on the whole island. Didnt they know they should prepare panadols or any sort of medication in advance? So i went through the campfire enduring the agony. Blew my harmonica during our skit, but i knew i sortta lyk screwed up that performance. It was simply the case of not practicing enough and it was a last minute decision. And i suck at harmoc. Damnit. The finale, the wild part, was worse. Perhaps i could join in if i felt better, but i dont, and dancing is not exactly my cup of tea. So too bad.

Anyway, on a positive note, i probably made a few more friends in that camp. .. Perhaps our section could do better with more guys though, not that i have a problem with girls but i m juz too shy to talk to them. Those people whom i knew there are either captains or president of their respective CCAs, or will soon become one. For me, i prefer to think myself as otherwise. The worse thing is that because i was the only person representing harmonica, they assumed that i'll be the future president. I was like ended up thinking along the lines of WHAT, ME? And no matter how i pictured myself i can't imagined that. Never mind, shall see what happens.

Watched qian's concert yesterday with qihan. Wow, that was good. Must say that i was thoroughly impressed by the high standards of Hwa Chong choir. Really brought out the intended atmosphere in most pieces. A notch better than the few other choir ensembles i've heard. Like the high school one in particular. Anyway, harmonica's concert is on 4th June, who is free to attend? We genuinely nid ur support and have even put up a separate three-four item, so do come down. Tickets are priced at $6 on the afternoon and $8 at night.

Ran out of things to write now. So yeahz...tt's it.

To Be Robin Hood...

....my electives...hmmm....quite ok i wud sae...archery is very fun...though the bowstring keep hitting my arm...ouch....tt spot is still red...it's very interesting how one can aim with the bow...i'm very tempted to join archery coz it's fun...but time is one problem...found out tt pulling the string is not exactly easy... my arm aches after many rounds of pulling...but i enjoy it...

...paintball....hmm...i wudn't exactly sae it's fun...the waiting time is like argh...and i am hungry....and finally when it's our turn...i found out tt getting hit is not exactly my kind of fun...lol...imagine something travelling at god-knows-wad speed hitting you...i was the first the get hit and was like...wtf...my wrist was red for the rest of the day...my mask was fogging during the game...and my vision was blurred...

...i think i still prefer archery more than paintball...haha...and i agree with rachel...eep was kinda cool...going to sch at 8 is fun when u get stares from people from other school(apparantly they were late)...

Electives!

Haven't posted here in just about forever.

My electives were Archery and Clay Target Shooting, which were both fun. =P Especially Archery. Although it was a bit hard when we just started because the bow was rather large (it's taller than me... ><) and you need quite a lot of strength to pull back the string (I don't know what you call it) to shoot.

Clay Target was a bit of a bummer because it started raining. Since we were shooting outdoors, we couldn't continue for some time, so we spent about 2 hours sitting around doing nothing. Blah. However Clay Target Shooting itself was fun, and I personally felt that I shot quite well (haha). The shotgun which we used was supremely heavy though, and I was having problems closing the gun after we loaded them. What hurt most however, was the recoil of the gun, and now my right shoulder hurts more than anything. Ooo, one interesting fact is that the shooting range is quite near my house! I was watching my housing estate go by when the bus was on the highway. It's not often that people travel to my area you know, seeing that I live on the edge of the world. Haha.

Well, I gotta go, sorry if it's a little brief 'cos it's my concert later. Yup. =P Too bad most of you are not going. Haiz, miss out on the good show!

HELlo,

my elective was ok, ok....

YUCK, the helmet stinks like the worst shit on earth. I have to tolerate it for one more day:( BUt after all, the elective is not all that bad. I mean I am learning to skate. However I realise I haven't learn anything because i basically did what I did during ice skating, that is any how! I have been placed in the best group! That's because I can actually move around somehow. However I am the lousiest in the group, being the one that fall occassionally and always not in control.
Learnt how to break fall IF I fall forward, but the irony is I had not fallen forward, not even once. K I hope everyone else is having fun too!

Class fund!

Well...class fund is in a bad state after the presents to SM2s and Eng Liang (...hahaz...hope he enjoys his cute little present, after looking at it i promised it's going to be exhilerating), but not as bad as huifang brought out to be, in fact she automatically presumed it's in a bad state :( We can still photocopy the papers yah. Dont have to reduce costs by so much, cos i'll feel guilty.

CL Listening was quite bad, oral reading a disaster...turns out that i may not be as good in CL after all. The only okay part was the conversation, cos for the first time i really felt like i was conversing with the examiner, though i m unsure of what is lurking behind her smile. Physics...well...after being used to the typical Mr. Tan, i didnt notice as much difference in his lessons as rach did. Perhaps it's juz my cynical attitude that i have to change.

There is this pile of tutorials still waiting to be cleared, and my pile is arguably the biggest of all. Wondering whether i will start on them at all. But i guess that shall not stop me from enjoying myself and attending class outings during the holidays...i mean...i m actually looking forward to them, starting from the movie marathon. . Shant comment about the ECP outing though. June is a better time for us to catch up with the class spirit that we have been lacking, than to study.

I tink i m one of the few ppl in class who aint that enthusiatic about the EEP thinggie. Yes, it's that camp. Three days of Pulau Ubin, when you will actually get to do those bonding, pitch tents and hiking crap, nothing special, nothing unique from any other school camps i attended in the past. Totally envious of the fun EEP u all will be going for. Well...i attended a few of them in CHS. Paintball was exciting, although the bullet that striked you could be extremely painful, and if there is too much ppl u wont get to play much, in fact, the game will end b4 u learn how to shoot. Inline skating is more enriching than fun, cause u'll have to learn everything from scratch, and falling isnt fun at all. Windsurfing is simply exhilerating, one of the few things which i actually wanted to go again but can't. Archery is simple to master, though u'll be tired of reloading and shooting after a while. For target shooting, my experience with M16 seem to imply that u will be crap in shooting the first time u hold the rifle, hahaz...but it's fun to see how badly (extremely bad) u can miss the target yeahz. Argh! Why m i deprived of my EEP???

Juz opened my GC, which i must say a decisive move after years of contemplating whether to sell it or not. It's not about self-discipline as i've brought out to be, i dont mind getting addicted to games. In fact, i dled Puzzle Pack immediately after opening it. Got 4045 at my 2nd attempt, 4010 at my first. Finally something i can get to do in boring lectures.

It's very late now. Gotta sleep soon.

Maths Paper

Hey S34! it'z your dear Maths Rep here! the Block Test is coming and the class didn't do very well for our lecture test (except some people)..so i am thinking of getting past year hwa chong block test papers for the class.. How many papers do you think we need for each maths? i can get quite a lot from the library, but there are no solutions.. maybe if we want the solutions, we can only ask from the seniors, and i think they only have their own paper and maybe the previous year's. so do you wan papers without solutions? btw due to bad situation of the class fund, i may copy the questions and solutions out so that we can save money.. any objections?

Yeah, I agree with Rachel that the Chinese oral wasn't all that bad, although the examiner didn't come across as friendly to me as everyone has been telling me, and Physics was productive, for once. For all those who didn't go, there too bad. By the way, there will be another make-up during the June hols, so keep your eyes, ears and handphones alert at all times! Now work, energy and power doesn't seem as scary as it did at first. =D

I'm feeling so happy now, even though I do have a lot of work to complete. The moment I handed in the PW file to Mr Koh, I felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Of course there's still lots to do, but the GPP and PI was dragging a lot of me down with it.

I was thinking of ice-skating during the second week of June. Any takers? If you're interested, tell me or Rachel! Heehee.

Oh yeah, Choir concert this Sat, $12 at VCH, 7.30pm!! WHO WANTS TO GOOOO? I need to sell tickets. Please tell me if you want some!

Have fun for EEP next week, I'm looking forward to mine. =) Also, looking forward to class outing tomorrow, hope to get a proper tan and some exercise!

Star Wars

HIez everyone,

My teacher sent this to me, thought I share it with you all:

The Empire Strikes Back: Extra-Special Edition INT: BESPIN GANTRY - MOMENTS LATER: A furious lightsaber duel is underway. DARTH VADER is backing LUKE SKYWALKER towards the end of the gantry. A quick move by Vader, chops off Luke's hand! It goes spinning off into the ventilation shaft. Luke backs away. He looks around, but realizes there's nowhere to go but straight down.
Darth Vader: Obi Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Luke: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
Darth Vader: No... I am your father!
Luke: No, it's not true! It's impossible.
Darth Vader: Search your feelings... you know it to be true...
Luke: NO! Darth Vader: Yes, it is true... and you know what else? You know that brass droid of yours?
Luke: Threepio?
Darth Vader: Yes... Threepio... I built him... when I was 7 years old...
Luke: No...
Darth Vader: Seven years old! And what have you done? Look at yourself, no hand, no job, and couldn't even levitate your own ship out of the swamp...
Luke: I destroyed your precious Death Star!
Darth Vader: When you were 20! When I was 10, I single-handedly destroyed a Trade Federation Droid Control ship!
Luke: Well, it's not my fault...
Darth Vader: Oh, here we go... "Poor me... my father never gave me what I wanted for my birthday... boo hoo, my daddy's the Dark Lord of the Sith...waahhh wahhh!"
Luke: Shut up...
Darth Vader: You're a slacker! By the time I was your age, I had exterminated the Jedi knights!
Luke: I used to race my T-16 through Beggar's Canyon.
Darth Vader: Oh, for the love of the Emperor... 10 years old, winner of the Boonta Eve Open... Only human to ever fly a Pod Racer... right here, baby!

Yup, I hope u all enjoy it, all the best for CLAO, and a happy weekend. For those who can make it, please join us for an outing at east coast this sun, see u all there!

An article about de-stressing

Are you feeling stressed out? Too many things to do, too little time? One more thing added to the To-Do list and you feel like you’ll explode?

Whoa there, no exploding allowed! You can handle it—just listen in.

Listen? To what?

To your self-talk. Not yourself talk, but your SELF-TALK. Listen in to the demands you’re making of your time, but more importantly listen in to how you’re saying them and what you’re saying.

Many of us don’t pay particular attention to what we’re saying to ourselves. We’ve never been taught the importance of how damaging it can be to us nor have we been shown that we can use it to feel much better. You can literally un-stress yourself by using your own self-talk.
Listen in for need-, -have-to-, -must-, type statements that you make to yourself.
“First I need to drop the kids off, then I have-to go to the grocery store, then I need to stop at the bank, then I have-to get home and work on those taxes before having to go back out and pick up the kids.”

You’ve just created a lot of demands on yourself. And yes, in order for your life to continue like you want, you would prefer to do all those things exactly as you have envisioned. But you don’t NEED to, HAVE-TO or MUST.

By using demanding statements on yourself, you open up a lot of opportunities to say irrational things to yourself that create stress.

When you use demanding statements, you then create a scenario of “what-if” in your head. And when the “what-if’s” back-up, then watch out stress level!

“What if I don’t get it done, what if I don’t get there in time to get the kids, what if this, what if that.” This is when you really go into stress mode!

Asking such open-ended questions is the origin much of your stress. You often answer with “that would be awful, that would be terrible” which compounds the stressful feelings even more.
Since awful and terrible are labels way beyond bad, (actually labels that are beyond definition) you’ve created a situation in your head that ends up with you saying to yourself “…and I couldn’t stand it if that happened,” or “…I couldn’t stand feeling that way!”

It’s indeed a vicious cycle of thinking that is common to all of us. Fortunately, once you know how, you can think your way out of these situations as quickly as you got in.
So where do you start?

First, flag such have-to, must, need-to statements in your head. Then replace the needs, musts and have-tos with preferences, desires, and wants.

Then when something doesn’t go according to your desires, reduce the awfuls and terribles to simply, bad. Then rest-assure yourself that you can stand it.

What if you don’t make it to the bank? What if you’re late picking up the kids?? Well, it’s not what you wanted, it may indeed even have consequences which may be bad, but in the overall scheme of things it isn’t awful and you CAN stand it.

A great deal of stress is caused from within by this “I-can’t-stand-it-it is.”

Remember: whenever you hear yourself saying “need-to, have-to, got-to, etc” replace it with want-to or would like to. Substitute needs with desires; musts with preferences.

And remind yourself that awful things will not happen if your desires are not met. You may not like the results if things don’t go your way, but you can indeed stand the feelings. It may not be good if things don’t fall into place like you want, but the world will continue to spin and you will be able to handle it.

It takes some practice. Don’t expect it to happen for you like magic. Pay attention to your self-talk, listen for the what-if statements, flag the must and need statements. Dispute them with wants and desires. Do it vigorously. With time it will become second nature, and you’ll notice the lack of stress in your life.

(noticed tt the class is abit stressed nowz...hope this will help...cos it somewhat describe my approach of doing things...happened to stumble upon this article...so heed the advice...it's really useful...and gd luck)

Jokes

A new priest at his first sermon was so nervous hecould hardly speak. After church he asked an elder how he had done. The elder replied, " When I am worried about gettingnervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next tothe water glass. If I start to get nervous, I take asip."So next Sunday he took the elder's advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous andtook a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm.Upon his return to his office after the service, hefound the following note on the door:Sip the vodka, don't gulp. There are 10 commandments, not 12.There are 12 disciples, not 10.Jesus was consecrated, not constipated.Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass.We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J.C.The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to asDaddy, Junior and the spook.David slew Goliath, he did not kick the sh*t out ofhim. When David was hit by a rock and was knocked off hisdonkey, don't say he was stoned off his ass.We do not refer to the cross as the "Big T."When Jesus broke the bread at the last supper he said,"take this and eat it for it is my body." He did notsay " Eat me" .The Virgin Mary is not called " Mary with the Cherry,.The recommended grace before a meal is not:Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, Yeah God.Next Sunday there will be a taffy pulling contest atST.Peter's not a peter pulling contest at St. Taffy's

some words

hello,

I just feeling like saying something, here goes. Firstly, I am glad the class has found a new source of entertainment- the graphics calculator! Despite not owning the gorgeous model of TI 84 silver edition, most of us are still able to enjoy ourselves by punching the keys of the TI 84 PLus. Have fun!

Secondly, I think our methods of communication, basically sharing rubbish together have seem to diminish or even vanish! Our yahoo group seem to be non existent, our blog's entry count is decreasing at an increasing rate^^.Wonder what happen to our crap book, or is it me who have not seen it in quite a while. Where's that yellow thingie that even Mr. Koh would hunt around enthusiastically for it?

Thirdly, haiz, my jacket has unfortunately been lost. I am not blaming anyone in this incident, nor am I very upset and furious. I just hope that everyone, especially those who had benefited from it before, would try to help me retrieve my jacket back. It was a part of me everytime I suffer in the freezing LT, I do hope it will be a part of me again soon. On that note, class jacket can possibly replace it temporarily.

Last but not least, I certainly think we need to have a class outing soon(not group outing). Now that my tournament has ended, I have slightly more time! Be it, an ice skating session, a trip to east coast, or even watching a movie or a dinner, please show your upmost support. Details will be filled in soon, and suggestions are warmly welcomed.

That's about it, I wish everyone a pleasant term 2 end.

Q.E.D.

"The Babel fish," said the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy quietly, "is small, yellow and leechlike, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy received not from its own carrier but from those around it. (......) The practical upshot of all this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language.

"Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof for the nonexistance of God.

"The argument goes something like this: 'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'

" 'But,' says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It would not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.'

" 'Oh dear,' said God, "I haven't thought of that,' and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic."

3-Words Story...

One fine day he starts to look for something small and fluffy becos
he likes to eat sweet rabbit meat. He seems to be a little sick of
eating chicken that is really rotten and maggotty with weird smell.
And he dun want to continue to suffer diarrheoa though he likes being
sick sometimes coz he is slow and weak unlike eng liang and rachel.
Recently, he decides to start saving money to buy lions that are dead
for his collection. He might eat outside simply becos he is broke and
unemployed. He is a gay and cheerful person because laughter is the
best medicine. Ming Hui, however doesn't need medicine to cure
himself from this illness. He is healthy if pigs fly. He likes to
party till late with barney and someone which he won't tell me. I am
hurt and start crying and stop laughing. I am strange. However,
Rachel is Rachel. On the contrary, You Jin is wonderful. Rachel is
good. With time running out, You Jin saves and chase after many hot
babes. He rocks. Also, everything are particles. That's why Physics
is a particle. Hence we should go the sleep and wake up later. Bye
Bye. See you soon. Love, three four. Go to sleep!

A nice Labour Day...

Heyz, wj said he missed my post so i decided to be back here again...after a week of absence. Dont worry i still read the blog everyday and it's quite fun too, in fact, i enjoy reading more than posting, but i give some to receive some, right?

Anyway, while reading your posts, i realised something interesting. People now have the tendency to put the "..." thing in b/w their text, which looks quite cool to me. Actually, i know i m a heavy user of tt, but now i decided not to do so again, to see how it feels like not to insert tt thing. And yahz, it feels a bit unnatural, cos i used the "..." thinggie so continue my flow of thoughts...tink i betta revert back. Juz laming around....

Unlike daen, who is so sad case doing PW during Labour Day, and going home at 10pm everyday...(btw Est Sularis Oth Mithas means something like...my honour is my life or something liddat, cant really rmbr but heard of it b4...but i noe there is the honour part which sounds daenish, hahaz)...i went out during sat, sun and mon of my labour day wkd. I know i m a bit crazy, or rather, i have the misconception tt the wkd is long and i have a lot of time to spend, until i ended up nowz...so late in the nite and planning to start my tutorials...cos i noe mr koh will kill me if i dont do V3, well...he noes i didnt do 1 and 2, but he insisted me on doing V3, with a stern warning i tink...so i betta start nowz...moral of the story...do ur tutorials and dont end up like me...eh...wat was i saying...sounds so unlike me...

Commenting more on slogans adopted by ppl of our class...i find tt wj's uniquely three-four doesnt sound appealing to me...sorry i m juz being frank...cos it reminds me of the "Uniquely Singapore" tourism nonsense which eventually didnt become very successful in my eyes. Hahaz...maybe wj would like to adopt a crappier slogan cos the crappier the merrier. Hahaz...i like qq's "Tear and Share" thinggie though...

Yeahz...i tink i desperately nid a class outing, hafnt hang out as a class for a long time...how about nxt wkd, if u dont mind flunking ur maths lect test and physics spa (eh...skill B is like dont really nid to study lehz...)...with me tt is. Well...if i m not wrong maths test is on maths C so we can juz heck...i mean...with promos and block test taken with the rest of the cohort other than S3 students, tt's enuff adv. Sorry if i sound too optismistic maybe i will die to...but who gives a damn...class outing more impt. Another thing...i noticed wj has a tendency to tell us to approach yan xia for more details for this and that dont noe wassup? Nvm, it's okayz as long as there is class outing yay....

Arh...run out of things to post liaoz...tink i can nvr reach as much things to say as i used to in the past....gd luck to CO, choir and badminton...and other ppl if i missed out any competitions or competitors, do hwachong and three-four proud.

Heloo dearest s34-ians,

This is your CT- REP speaking, HAPPY LABOUR DAY! AS you can see labour day is a joyous occassion when people rest, rest more and rest even more. This explains my elated mood as I am doing nothing but simply relaxing!

It's also a time when we reaped the fruits of our labour! While others are celebrating for a day, we'll be celebrating for a whole week! With health and fitness week just over, let's examine what fruits we can stand to reap!

First up, good luck to Choir and CO as they try their very best for the school. After months of hard work, I am sure their effort will pay off. The fruits they reap is certainly something our class can look forward to.

Secondly, we'll be finalising our class jacket this week and send it for production, hopefully enjoying economics of scale:D After countless hours of planning and opinion- seeking, it's time we enjoy the product- a jacket to prevent people from freezing!^^

Thirdly, after numerous seconds of slogging and mugging on the 34 side, organising on the committee side, we'll most likely have a class outing this week. The class will be updated with the necessary details, for more information, do approach YAN XIA!!!!

So once again, enjoy your well deserved 3 day break. Be it overseas *cough cough*, outings or even 15 hours of sleep, spend it wisely and joyfully. See you all in school tomorrow as we continue our celebrations, too bad non 34-ians!

ur amiable CT- Rep

CO practice is so intensive...i don't have a weekend.. have to go back to school on Monday.. Hopefully we can do the best of what we can do on Tuesday..

I went back to my secondary school on Friday, heard my school's guzheng play.. they play so well, much much better than our batch, they have the standard of GOld with Honours.. but they got a silver.. everyone was so extremely upset.. even me.. :( the senior guzheng members (our batch) played our SYF song too.. forgot a bit.. and most are reluctant to play (so angry with them)..so only 3 pathetic people (me included) are playing..

i played quite badly for my solo performance.. coz my guzheng nail at the index finger came loose when i was carrying the guzheng.. then i played a lot of wrong notes >_<

Piggy

I realise it's really very hard to draw with a laptop's touchpad thing. It's not only small, it's also not very sensitive and your finger is relatively quite large. I mean, it occupies 1/20th of the whole damn thing.

However, here's my pig! http://drawapig.desktopcreatures.com/gallery/large.asp?id=238329&p=0&hof=0
